JVK's Hawkwind anim made on Amiga

The legendary British space-acid-rock band, still years ahead of the zeitgeist since 1969... they had a 1999 Party back in the seventies!

Newest news at the top:

October 2000 A grand reunion, a 31st anniversary gig! Lemmy, Nik Turner, Alan Davey and many others will be rejoining the great spaceship for one night that promises to be out of this world...

Be there, or be elsewhere!

December 99: New CD from Voiceprint spotted at HMV: Complete '79 double live album. Starts off like a bootleg with the stereo all over the place but give it a chance because it's a good strong recording - indispensible. The CD insert is a reprint of the original tour programme. Wonder what gig this is from? What a line-up: Dave and Huw, Harvey and Tim Blake, Simon King. Wow.

10.11.99 Saw Hawkwind at the Stables in Wavendon, on the outskirts of Milton Keynes. A good set with Harvey Bainbridge guesting. Ron Tree is really good on the Calvert numbers. Nice to see the chaps up close for once: the venue is so small it was like a private party. I even exchanged grins with Dave Brock as one couple began, er, making-out on a corner of the tiny stage!

15.9.99 Do Not Miss Top of the Pops 2 this Saturday (BBC2 16:25) as the Hawks are on with Silver Machine from 1972.

September 1999: The EpochEclipse single CD and 3CD compilations have now been released by EMI to celebrate the bands 30th Anniversary. The triple CD set has very handsome packaging. To support the albums a remix of Silver Machine (included on the triple set) by The Scourge Of The Earth (aka Jimmy Cauty of the KLF) is currently doing the rounds at radio stations and clubs in the UK.

In support of the albums rumours are hotting up of 2 nights at the Brixton Academy London in September with the key members of the band from throughout the last 30 years, Lemmy included. Or so EMI say...

The September issue of Mojo magazine has an excellent eight page article on the band, which taught me a lot!

August 1999: Castle Music have released some remastered albums, in deluxe packaging with sleeve notes: Live Seventy Nine, Xenon Codex, Palace Springs, Levitation, It is the Business of the Future..., Space Bandits, Live Chronicles and Anthology 1967-1982.

August 1999: The Space Ritual album features in a "Best Psychedelic Albums of All Time" promo in big HMV stores. Sitting alongside albums by Frank Zappa, Love, and the Nuggets compilation, SR gets a good write-up in which Sonic Attack is identified as the most psychedelic moment. Hm, I would have said Upside Down or 10 Seconds of Forever myself! Anyway, nice one HMV.

HAWKWIND, GONG, SPACEHEAD, BANCO DE GAIA, ARTHUR BROWN and more are playing at the BADAM FESTIVAL JULY 31 - AUGUST 1 1999, Ticket line 01298 26884.

27.6.99: In the shops NOW is Dawn of Hawkwind a CD (in a booklet with photos) featuring lots of Dave Brock blues music from the 60s, with spoken comments from the man himself. On the Blueprint label, BP309CD.

21.4.98: New Kula Shaker CD single Sound of Drums contains a version of the Hawk's 1969 single Hurry On Sundown!

Five new CDs by the end of November 1997!

  • LOVE IN SPACE, new single
  • DISTANT HORIZONS, new album
  • 1999 PARTY, live 1974 double
  • AMBIENT ANARCHISTS, compilation
  • 25 YEARS ON, compilation

HAWKWIND: saw them on 7/6/97 at Blackheath Concert Halls, London. Alan Davey has left, replaced by Jerry Richards of Tubilah Dog.

Support was Capt. Rizz. who were also at the Notting Hill Carnival.

On Samhain (31.10.97) I saw Hawkwind at Shepherds Bush with Crumb on synthesisers. Support was the excellent Banco de Gaia.

I have a foot-high pile of Hawkwind press cuttings going back to 1970. When I get a scanner you are all going to suffer!

But seriously though folks, I do want to build this page into a big resource, so please have a look back in a few months and see how I'm getting on...
