Career History:
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young

July 1992 to present.
Position: Senior Operator.

As below, also responsible for running and monitoring client workload on clustered Digital Alpha servers with StorageWorks arrays, running OpenVMS and Unix. Use of OMS software to monitor hardware.

London Clearing House (formerly ICCH), Aldgate House, Aldgate High St., London EC3

August 1983 to July 1992

John progressed to Senior Operator, acting as deputy shift leader for last few years responsible for up to 4 operators. Job involves monitoring systems and making sure all work is completed on-time. Active problem resolution, liaising where necessary with customers, support and management. Writing problem reports.

During this period saw three migrations: from multiple DOS/VSE systems running under VM on three IBM 4381 mainframes, to MVS and JES2 on an IBM 3033, to VAX/VMS on a DEC CI cluster with HSC50 disks, to 4500-based DEC clusters using DSSI and SCSI drives. LCH operated a large CICS system with hundreds of on-line users under the IBM systems before the systems were converted to DEC.

For four years, three different OS (MVS, DOS and VMS) were on-site at LCH and operated simultaneously during a very busy period.

JCL and DCL knowledge. Selcopy programming used in the solving of live problems and in the development of Operator utilities.

John maintained EREP for the site and did some REXX and CLIST programming. Experience of VSAM, JES2, SDSF, VTAM and Omegamon.

Reason for leaving: In 1992 the Operations Department of LCH transferred to Cap Gemini (then known as Hoskyns) in a Facilities Management deal.

Ever Ready, 1255 High St., Whetstone, London, N20.

March 1977 to July 1983

Starting salary: £1825.00.

I progressed to Senior Computer Operator from a trainee position. Job involved scheduling batch jobs in up to six live streams, and handling all media and printout for this large manufacturer and distributor.

Full responsibility for actions and training of shift, working overtime as necessary. Problems solved in liaison with programming and technical support, altering jobs and JCL as required.

Various IBM hardware was used: 370/148 running native DOS/VSE, SYS/34, 4331 and 4341 running DOS/VSE under VM.

Some programming with Selcopy and CA-EARL, also user of Westinghouse Disk Utility, Logout and Ditto.

I was an experienced user of VSE/POWER, DYNAM/T, GRASP/VSE and EPAT at this site. Some Basic and Fortran knowledge acquired.

Reason for leaving: Redundancy due to Head Office closure.

Desoutter Brothers Ltd., The Hyde, Colindale, London.

September 1976 to March 1977

Annual salary: £2300.00.

Worked in Data Prep, collecting data from factory and offices, batching data for punch operatives, checking machine totals from Honeywell mainframe with manually prepared totals.

Reason for leaving: Moved to a larger site with better career opportunities.
